Travel Information

Currency & Payment

The local currency is Japanese Yen (JPY). Japanese money comes in bills (1,000, 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000 yen) and coins (1, 5, 10, 50, 100 and 500 yen).

Major currencies, such as the US dollar and EURO, can be exchanged at international airports, major banks and major hotels. Banks are open from 9:00 to 15:00 on Monday to Friday.

Credit Cards

Most major credit cards such as American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Diners Club, and JCB are accepted at major stores and facilities. In some shops, you can use the contactless method, but in some places, you’ll need to enter your PIN code. Note, however, that some facilities do not accept credit cards at all, and others may accept only certain types, so carry some cash at all times.

Tipping

Tipping is not necessary unless you request some extra special service. Individual tipping is not common in Japan, since a 10 to 15 % service charge is added to the bill at major hotels and higher-class restaurants.

Wi-Fi

Free Wi-Fi (Fukuoka City Wi-Fi) is provided in many public areas, including Fukuoka Airport and major subway stations. For continuous access, we recommend renting a pocket Wi-Fi or purchasing an eSIM at the airport.

Electricity

In Japan, 2-flat-pin plugs(Type A) are commonly used instead of round or 3-pin plugs. The standard voltage throughout the country is 100 volts, A.C. Japan uses two different power frequencies: 60 Hertz in western Japan and 50 Hertz in eastern Japan (including Hokkaido). Since the conference will be held in Fukuoka, which is located in western Japan, the local power frequency is 60 Hertz.

Convertible electrical appliances, such as travel irons, hair dryers and shavers are generally compatible. Otherwise, a step-down transformer may be required to convert the voltage. Both 2-PIN and 2-PIN with EARTH plug types are used.

Weather in November

November is one of the best times to visit Japan, as the weather is relatively dry and mild, and the autumn colors are spectacular in many parts of the country. Travel activity tends to be low except around popular autumn leaf spots.

Fukuoka is the gateway to Kyushu, Japan’s third largest island.

Fukuoka's November climate is typically mild autumn, transitioning cooler towards winter, with average highs around 18°C (64°F) and lows dropping to 9°C (48°F) by month's end, requiring layers and light jackets, alongside clear skies, colorful foliage, and moderate rainfall.
