Student and Young Engineer Design Competitions
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
Students and young engineers are invited to participate in the Student and Young Engineer Design Competition (SYDC). The competition features up to four distinct tracks, including the Active, Passive, and WPT tracks organized by the APMC 2026 Committee, and the Oscillator track organized in collaboration with IEEE MTT-S TC-3. In each track, registered participants will go through the following three stages:
- Design: Create your original circuit for one of the available tracks.
- Measure: Fabricate your hardware and bring it to Fukuoka.
- Compete: Challenge other participants with your circuit’s performance!
Please review the details for each track below.

- ・Third Prize: 10,000 JPY
- Note for WPT Track:
- ・Financial prizes for the WPT Track are available to the Student Category only.
- ・Teams in the Young Engineer Category are eligible for Official Certificates and recognition only.
Award Selection & Guidelines:
- • For details on the award selection process and evaluation criteria for the Active, Passive and WPT Tracks, please refer to the Selection Criteria (in Japanese).
- • For information on the Oscillator Track, please refer to the track details in the CALL FOR APPLICATIONS section.
IMPORTANT NOTES & ELIGIBILITY
- • Onsite Participation: This competition requires 100% onsite participation. All teams and individual participants must present their work in person at the conference venue. Remote or postal submissions will not be accepted.
- • APMC 2026 Registration: All applicants must register for APMC 2026 in addition to submitting SYDC application form. A one-day option "Student and Young Engineer Design Competitions (SYDC) Pass" is available for those who wish to attend APMC solely for the SYDC event. You may register beforehand or onsite at the conference venue.
- • Participant Limit: The number of accepted applicants may be limited due to overall competition time constraints.
- • Active & Passive Tracks Regulation: Open to individual full-time students only. Team participation is not allowed.
- • WPT Track Regulation: Open to both full-time students and young engineers. This track accepts team participation (limited to 1–3 members, and each participant can join only ONE team). Teams are classified into two categories:
- ◊ Student Category: All team members must be full-time students.
- ◊ Young Engineer Category: Open to all WPT enthusiasts, including mixed student/non-student teams.
- • Oscillator Track Regulation: Open to full-time students only. This track also accepts team participation (limited to 1-3 members, and each participant can join only ONE team). A valid student ID must be presented during the competition.
- ◊ Submission Limit: Each team/individual may submit up to two designs. However, only one design per team can be nominated for an award.
- • Multi-Track Participation: Participants are allowed to enter multiple tracks simultaneously. However, you must submit a separate application form for each track you wish to join. (Note: For team-based tracks like WPT and Oscillator, you can still only join one team per track).
- • IEICE Membership: Membership in IEICE is highly encouraged but not mandatory. Both members and non-members can participate.
The above regulations are subject to change without prior notice.
